Haridwar Dharma Sansad controversy: Supreme Court ready to hear hate speech case, CJI said – will hear the matter soon



New Delhi: The matter of hate speech in the Dharma Sansad in Haridwar has reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the matter soon. Chief Justice NV Ramana said that we will hear the matter. A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana took note of the submissions of senior advocate Kapil Sibal that no action has been taken against the hate speeches despite the registration of an FIR.

Regarding this matter, senior advocate Kapil Sibal in the apex court said, ‘We have filed a public interest litigation on the incidents in the Dharma Sansad in Haridwar. The slogan of the country has changed from Satyamev Jayate to Sashastramev Jayate. Sibal said in the court, “I have filed this public interest litigation regarding what happened in the Parliament of Religions in Haridwar from December 17 to 19. We are living in difficult times where the slogan of ‘Satyamev Jayate’ has changed in the country. After this, CJI Ramana said that the court will hear the matter.

Let us tell you that a Dharma Sansad was organized in Haridwar last month, in which the matter of giving hate speech against a particular religion sect came to the fore. In this case, Uttarakhand Police had registered a case against Wasim Rizvi alias Jitendra Narayan Tyagi and others. Taking cognizance of the video going viral on social media for spreading hatred by giving inflammatory speeches against a particular religion, a case has been registered against Waseem Rizvi alias Jitendra Narayan Tyagi and others under Section 153A IPC at Kotwali Haridwar.

In Haridwar, this program lasted for three days. In this, after the video of the hate speech went viral, former army chiefs, activists and many others condemned the controversial speech in strong words and demanded action. Trinamool Congress leader and RTI activist Saket Gokhale had filed a complaint against the organizers and the speakers in this matter.
