Rising Cases of Omicron Variants Worldwide

Currently, the world is dealing with a new type of coronavirus which has led to a rise in cases across the globe. In India alone, over 2.40 lakh COVID positive cases were reported, most of which were caused by Omicron variants. Data collected from around the world suggests that in addition to these three typical symptoms of the parent strain, Omicron can also cause some unusual symptoms.

According to UK researchers, only 50 per cent of all tested positive for COVID-19 develop the classic three symptoms. In addition, only a fifth of people diagnosed with COVID now have problems with smell and taste.

Apart from these, there are some other signs which are not usually associated with the respiratory system and often go unnoticed.

COVID-19 infection can cause rashes on the skin, fingers, toes, mouth, and tongue. This is one of the symptoms of omicron seen in many people who tested positive for the viral infection. A COVID-19 rash is usually itchy, which can worsen at night and cause sleep disturbances. Some people may also experience a rash as well as sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) light.

There may be disturbances in mental abilities that can lead to confusion in thinking and reduced awareness of the environment. The condition is also linked to COVID and is mainly seen in older adults. Symptoms of delirium appear suddenly and within days after being infected with the virus. Older people are easily confused and behave strangely after being diagnosed with COVID. Symptoms disappear on their own after recovery from the infection.

Skipping meals or loss of appetite is experienced by one in three people diagnosed with COVID-19. They may not like to eat for more than a week after being diagnosed with COVID-19. This eventually leads to weight loss and weakness. But skipping meals when suffering from COVID-19 can also make it difficult for the patient to recover from the infection as quickly as possible.
