This state of the country has completed 100% vaccination of children in the age group of 15-18 years

New Delhi: In a span of just two weeks, Tamil Nadu’s health minister has claimed that his government has administered the first dose of the COVID vaccine to all school students in the age group of 15-18 years.

State Health Minister Ma Subramaniam told ANI news agency, “100% of school students between 15 and 18 years of age in Tamil Nadu have been vaccinated with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.”

India started the COVID vaccination campaign for the 15-18 age group from January 3 this year as there was a surge in cases due to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Potential beneficiaries born in 2007 or earlier are eligible for vaccination. The Center has approved Bharat Biotech’s COVID Vaccine (Covaxin) only for young children. Students can register themselves on the Co-Win portal or get vaccinated by providing ID proof.

According to PTI news agency, a total of 33,46,000 children in the age group of 15 to 18 years in the southern state are eligible for the Kovid vaccination. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the vaccination for this age group at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Porur on 3 January.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government has declared a school holiday for all classes till January 31 due to the increase in the cases of corona virus. Night curfew in the state will also continue till January 31 and will be effective from 10 pm to 5 am from Monday to Saturday. The state has implemented lockdown on Sunday.
