New Delhi: There has been a huge explosion in the West African country of Ghana. 17 people have died in this accident while 59 people are said to be injured. It is being told that a massive explosion took place after a motorcycle and a truck carrying explosives collided. 17 people died in the blast. The death toll may rise further. More than 59 people were injured in this accident. The condition of many of the injured remains critical.
Seji Saji Amedonu, deputy director general of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), said 500 buildings have been destroyed. The explosion occurred in Apiate, between the cities of Bogoso and Bawdi in the country’s western region. Here a motorcycle had come under a truck carrying explosives, which was on its way to the Chirano gold mine operated by Canada’s Kinross company. A Kinross spokesman confirmed the incident, saying the site where the incident occurred was 140 kilometers (87 mi) from the mine.
Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed grief over the incident. He wrote – In the western region there was an explosion near Bogoso. This is really unfortunate and sad incident. On behalf of the government, I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Police, Armed Forces and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) are making concerted efforts to rectify the situation.
