New Delhi: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya on Tuesday said he likes to take responsibility and is looking forward to leading the Ahmedabad franchise in IPL 2022. The Ahmedabad franchise (which was bought by CVC Capital Partners) has picked Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill along with Pandya ahead of the mega auction.
28-year-old Hardik, (who has played only for Mumbai Indians so far) will be leading an IPL franchise for the first time. However, he is confident of applying the knowledge that he has gained over the years and is looking to become the big brother of the players in his team.
Cricbuzz quoted Hardik as saying, “There is no different way to learn how to be a captain. I have always been someone who likes to take responsibility and I am looking forward to the challenge. As a captain, I want to make sure all the players get enough time from me. That’s what I learned and I would like my doors to be open for them all the time.”
He said, “When someone is doing well, they don’t need anyone. When someone is having a bad day, they need you. As a captain, when someone is doing well, I Won’t bother him. But when someone goes through a bad phase, I will always be there for them.”
Hardik has played in the IPL and for India under the leadership of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
When asked which qualities he would pick among the three India captains, the star all-rounder said, “From Virat, I would pick his aggression, passion and energy, which is tremendous. Along with Mahi bhai, I am the cool guy. And from Rohit, I will let the players decide what they want to do. I will take these three qualities from him and bring him here.”
Along with head coach Ashish Nehra and team mentor Gary Kirsten, the Gujarat-born cricketer wants his team to do better in the league.
“We are making a new beginning and I think we can create new cultures and legacies that I want to support. It will be a very exciting time,” Pandya said.
